CabaretFest Review: Jeff Macauley at Pilgrim House

Jeff Macauley
By Larry Myers****Charming Jim Keating announced tall, chisel-featured Jeff Macauley and his Mr. Lucky:The songs of Henry Mancini. By evening’s end, Jeff offers a consummate interpretation of “Crazy World” from Victor/Victoria. Included on his bill, are obscure, forgettable tunes from 60’s films. These are followed by iconic ones, “Charade,” “Days of Wine & Roses,” “Moon River” and “Two for the Road.” Lana Cantrell’s definitive version of “Road” rings in my head. Films in the 60’s were a time of wide screen background Muzak and make-believe, material not easily transferable to cabaret.
Macauley has a startled, wistful, bewitched presentational style.
