Provincetown Theater hosts “Winter Play Dates” January – March

Provincetown Theater, hosts Winter Play Dates, the free play-reading series curated by Gary Garrison and Artistic Director David Drake, as part of the company’s mission to develop new work.

Beginning on Tuesday, January 15 with Provincetown playwright Michael Wallerstein’s Chasing Happy, a romantic comedy about a Brazilian woman, an English woman and a couple of gay men in midlife crisis during a summer in Provincetown, the series will continue every other Tuesday night at 7pm.

Coming up on January 29, is Visions of Beatitude, North Truro playwright Joe Paprzycki’s “what if” look at a mythical meeting between writers Eugene O’Neill and Tennessee Williams in Provincetown. On February 12, the reading will be The Shadow Child, by Provincetown playwright Myra Slotnick, about a young boy entering the lives of an emotionally haunted family in 1960’s Brooklyn.  The Lady Hamlet, a backstage comedy set in the 1920’s by New York playwright Sarah Schulman, about two female divas competing for the role of Hamlet on Broadway as well as the hand of Ophelia, will be presented on February 26.  On March 12, (Expletive) You, Julia, about the personal and professional adventure of a high-priced dominatrix and a struggling young hustler, by New York playwright Chris Harder, is the play. The last reading in the series will be a new play by Boston playwright Kate Snodgrass, on March 26.

All readings are at 7pm, with snacks, hot drinks and a cash bar available in the lobby of the theatre at 238 Bradford St.
