MAC & Bistro Award Winner Dawn Derow to take Cape Cod by Late Summer Storm with Shows in Provincetown, North Truro and Cotuit

The story of Dawn Derow is the classic tale of “local girl makes good.”

Growing up on Cape Cod, her family co-owned the Lighthouse Restaurant in Wellfleet for 30 years and as a teenager, when Dawn wasn’t working at the restaurant, she was performing and singing on the Cape and preparing for a future career as a singer/actress. After studying classical voice at the Boston Conservatory, Derow moved to New York City to pursue a career in musical theatre. She then performed all over the world in operas, classical concerts, musicals and on cruise ships, before returning to NYC in 2007, when she began performing cabaret shows focused on Great American Songbook standards, pop classics and her own original songs.

In 2015, Dawn returned to her opera roots and won a coveted 2016 Bistro Award as “Outstanding Vocalist” for her show, Legit–A Classical Cabaret. She followed that in 2017, with her critically acclaimed show My Ship: Songs From 1941, which earned her a second MAC Award, this time as “Best Female Vocalist.” Dawn shared the 2015 MAC Award for “Best Revue” with Kathleen France.

This summer, Derow is returning to the Cape as a certified New York cabaret star. On August 11, she’ll be the featured performer for the Cape Cod Children’s Place Benefit Wish Upon A Star, hosted by Truro Vineyards at 11 Shore Rd in North Truro, MA (www.capecodchildrensplace.com). On August 14 and 15 (at 9:30 pm), 23 (from 3:30-6:30 pm), and September 8 (from 6:30-9:30 pm), she’ll perform at Tin Pan Alley on 269 Commercial Street in Provincetown. (508)487-1648)

Derow’s Cape Cod-area tour will culminate with a performance of My Ship: Songs From 1941 at Cotuit Center for the Arts on 9/7 at 7:30 pm (4404 Falmouth Rd, Rte 28). For tickets, go to: www.artsonthecape.com or call (508)428-0669).

New York cabaret reviewers raved about My Ship:

“A wonderfully crafted work and a perfect storm of entertainment.” – Cabaret Scenes Magazine

“Extraordinary . . . a remarkable song list . . . don’t miss it!” – BistroAwards.com

“This show hums like Swiss clockwork . . . top-notch entertainment.” – TheaterPizzazz.com

Derow admits that she’s thrilled to be pulling into Cape Cod Bay to share her talent there again. “Bringing my award-winning show My Ship to the Cotuit Center is an award in itself,” she says. “I’m delighted I get to share the songs of 1941 with my fellow Cape Codders, both locals and visitors. And I’ve always loved the energy of Ptown, so the residency at Tin Pan Alley is doubly rewarding since that’s where My Ship was launched two years ago. I can’t wait!”
