By Ptown NiteLife****It’s Carnival time in Provincetown! This year’s “Mardi Gras by the Sea” theme is sure to please the more than 90,000 expected visitors. The Parade, Thursday August 16, is the most popular day in PTown. Folks of all ages line the streets in expectation of  extravagant floats, scantily clad marchers, colored beads, lavish costumes and hot music. The parade typically lasts 3 hours.

To open the weeks festivities, the 20th Annual “Sundays @ Five Concert” held at the Unitarian Universalist Church,  236 Commercial Street, will add to the celebration with a musical concert; Wet & Wild Broadway. The concert of singing divas and divos delivers grand performances from Broadway musicals celebrating all things festival, fun and beautiful by the sea.

Jo Brisbane

Over 12 performers will start the show with a smashing opening number featuring the cast followed by each performer delivering two songs that fit the theme. Polished professionals from Broadway and Off-Broadway will delight you with their selections. “Sundays @ Five” is also a stage for the new performer looking for a receptive audience.

Performers include Mary Abt (once a part of the famous group “The Three Marys”), Jo Brisbane, who can be seen starring in local theatre musicals, Kurt Reynolds, Pamela Murray, Chis Sidoli

(who comes to us from Upstate NY summer stock), Paul Gaddu, Kristen Mello (a fabulous soprano), Jeff Tagen, Brian Calhoon, Kenny Lonergan (the beloved Town

John Thomas

Crier and former musical director), Judy Brubaker (a 94-year-old chanteuse from Chicago who once dated Howard Hughes and befriended Marilyn Monroe) and Provincetown CabaretFest producer and MAC Nominated NYC/Boston cabaret performer, Patricia Fitzpatrick. All performers are accompanied by the “Sundays @ Five” producer/director John Thomas. Thomas has been a fixture in the music scene of Provincetown for over 20 years. He not only is the accompanist, he is a prolific composer/song writer.

Folks line up an hour before the show to enjoy a mini-Broadway performance. Tickets are sold at the door and are $20. However, no one is ever turned away if they can make a contribution to the preservation of the historic church building fund.

“Our audience is so special. The experience feels  so intimate, like family.” Marcy Feller/performer.
