The Great Music on Sundays @ 5concert series, in collaboration with Berta Walker Gallery, presents Painting Broadway! The Music of Art on Sunday July 22 at 5 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Meeting House of Provincetown (236 Commercial Street, (508)487-9344).
Painting Broadway is a celebration of the inspiration of visual art in great musicals with several selections from Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George, featuring Christopher Sidoli and Trish LaRose. One dozen singers also will perform passionate and powerful songs from Broadway musicals that feature the theme of art and the creative life. John Thomas is the music director and pianist.
This special concert includes the display of paintings by well-known Provincetown-based artists Salvatore Del Deo, Robert Henry, Sky Power and Peter Watts, courtesy of Berta Walker Gallery.
The Painting Broadway! concert features special guest Trish LaRose, who is an Associate Artist at Cape Rep Theatre in Brewster MA, where she has appeared in more than a dozen productions. Her featured roles include Mary Flynn in Merrily We Roll Along, Fanny Brice in Funny Girl, Mae West in Dirty Blonde and Serafina Delle Rose in The Rose Tattoo. She also performed in the national tour of Urban Cowboy and Legally Blonde at the North Shore Music Theatre. Her one-woman show, performed frequently in Cape Cod and New York City, is an audience hit. Trish will appear as Donna Sheridan in Mamma Mia! at Cape Rep Theatre in August. She graduated from The Boston Conservatory.
Trish says: “I remember like it was yesterday, meeting Christopher Sidoli at The Harwich Junior Theater and performing in our first show together. We have remained friends for more than twenty years. To be able to perform with him again, alongside the brilliant John Thomas, is a dream come true. With this concert, we wanted to choose music that we love but that also would challenge us. Our appreciation for Sondheim and his creative genius felt like the right choice. I sincerely look forward to sharing this musical journey and hope all will join us for a beautiful evening.”
The Painting Broadway! concert also features performances by many of the Great Music on Sundays @5 Broadway ensemble, including Mary Abt, Jo Brisbane, Brian Calhoon, Marcy Feller, Paul Goddu, Pamela Murray, Ada Snider, Jeff Tagen and others, as well as surprise guest singers.
Everyone is welcome to attend. Admission is $20 at the door. Senior (65+) discounts are available at $15. Children ages 12 and under are admitted free. Tickets are available in advance online atbrownpapertickets.com.
