A Celebration Dinner with Terrence McNally, Who is Receiving the First Annual Provincetown American Playwright Award, Friday, July 20 at The Provincetown Theater

A playwright’s voice is singular. Yet it is utterly informed by the world it lives in.

One hundred and two summers ago in a converted fish house on Lewis Wharf, the original Provincetown Players set forth to thrust their American-born and bred voices into the world from this little spit of sand at the tip of Cape Cod. In doing so, they changed that world forever.

To acknowledge this invaluable global contribution at the Birthplace of American Theatre, the Artistic Director of the Provincetown Theater, David Drake and the Board of the Provincetown Theater Foundation, will inaugurate the First Annual Provincetown American Playwright Award to a great living writer on Friday, July 20, 2018, with a gala benefit at the home of Ken Fulk, to the four-time Tony Award-winning writer and singular voice of our summer premiere of the masterpiece Love! Valour! Compassion!  Terrence McNally.

Like the mission of the original Provincetown Players — which is embodied in the life’s work of Terrence McNally — the galvanizing spirit of independent thought, creativity, freedom of speech, diversity and ability to congregate to form communities which speak to our hearts, minds and souls, we wish our supporters of the Provincetown Theater a very happy, healthy and safe Fourth of July.
